First-Class Mail® Benefits and Costs Explained

First-Class Mail

The United States Postal Service® classifies mail into different services, called “classes.” Each class of mail has its own features, service levels, postage prices and presort requirements. In this post we explore the benefits and characteristics of First-Class Mail.

First-Class Mail®

First-Class Mail is meant for letters or parcels up to 13 oz. When it comes to delivery times you can expect your First-Class Mail piece to be delivered in an average of one to three days depending on distance. Plus, First-Class Mail prices are the same regardless of how far the mail travels, and include forwarding and return services. First-Class Mail® is the most common class because it’s fast, easy and affordable. For more information check-out the USPS website.

Under the 2019 USPS price changes the cost of a stamp for first-class mail is going up from $0.50 to $0.55. Meter users, however, are able to save 9 percent on each First-Class Mail piece.
