UPS® Announces 4.9 Percent Rate Increase on Parcels

December 11, 2018

UPS just announced that their new shipping rates will go into effect shortly after the holiday season on December 26, 2018.  On average UPS rates will go up 4.9% for Ground, Air and International services, just like their counterpart FedEx, whose rates are scheduled to go into effect January 7.

Why the increase? According to the UPS this general rate increase is to “support ongoing expansion and capabilities enhancements while ensuring UPS is fairly compensated for the value and high service levels provided.”

For freight and international shippers there are more rate changes to go into effect December 31, 2018. The Domestic Air Fuel Surcharge will increase by 0.25%. And effective December 26, 2018, the rates for UPS Air Freight within and between the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico will increase an average of net 4.9%.

You can find more information about the parcel rate change on the UPS website. Sign up to stay on the email list for our upcoming webinar on how to navigate the parcel rate changes in the new year.
