USPS makes surprising announcement for 2025 First-Class rates

It’s official! The United States Postal Service has confirmed that there will be no price increase in January 2025 for First-Class Mail and other Market Dominant products—including Periodicals, Marketing Mail, Business Reply Mail, and Package Services. In this economy?! I’ll take it!

That’s not all. The next potential rate adjustment isn’t until July 2025. THAT’S RIGHT—a whole 7 months to enjoy stable rates before the next possible increase. Now the question is, how can your business capitalize on these next 7 months?

Let’s dive into 3 key ways your business can take advantage before July hits—and no, we’re not using the savings to book a month-long Mediterranean cruise (tempting as that sounds)!

1. Boost Your Marketing Mail Campaigns

With no rate increase until July 2025, now is the perfect time to ramp up your marketing mail efforts. Direct mail remains one of the most effective ways to engage customers, offering a personal touch that digital channels can’t match.

Tip: If you have a local business, consider using Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM) from the U.S. Postal Service. You can send flyers, advertisements, postcards or any mailing up to 3.3 oz. to entire zip codes for just $0.22 each or less. Bonus: you don’t need to buy mailing a list!

2. Ramp Up Your Business Reply Mail

If your business relies on customer feedback, survey responses, or payment processing through Business Reply Mail (BRM), now’s the time to increase volume without the worry of rising costs. BRM not only encourages customer engagement but also makes it easier for them to respond or return invoices at no cost to them.

Tip: If you don’t use BRM but like the idea of better response rates and more cash flow, check out our guide to business reply envelopes.

3. Plan Ahead with Prepaid Postage

Do you handle a lot of shipments or customer returns? Consider prepaying for postage or buying postage in bulk to lock in the current rates for future mailing needs. By planning ahead, you can safeguard against potential cost increases and manage your budget more effectively.

Tip: With prepaid postage, you’re only charged if recipients or customers use the prepaid mailing or shipping label!
